contest were preparing their colorful Vinta (a small outrigger boat with triangular sails)
along the shore of the RT Lim Boulevard. Participants were the Samas, Badjaos and
Tausugs of Zamboanga, usually from Sinunuc, Ayala, Labuan, Mariki, Maasin, and
Sta. Cruz Island. This is part of the celebration of the annual Zamboanga Hermosa
Festival that runs from October 1-12. Regatta de Zamboanga is considered to be
one of the trademark events of Zamboanga City due to its colorful and crowd-drawing nature.
